Holy Mountain Trading Company - Spotlight on Ceramic Artist Yoshinori Mizuno

C-Rest Sushi Salmon Roe Designer:  Yoshinori Mizuno
Born:           March 25, 1964
Place of birth:  Oroshi, Toki

Why did you make ceramic sushi? It was a challenge from a Sushi chef friend in Tsukiji, Tokyo and I wanted to make something different than the Kyusu - side handle teapots and Tokkuri - sake bottles I am accustomed to making.

How is each sushi made? The sushi is made of two different pieces to get the best colors and detail, fired separately, attached together and then fired again. It took six months to develop the firing methods and molds. I am continually adding new pieces of sushi.

How did you start designing? I always liked drawing and wanted to have a job designing since I was a child.

When did you first become interested in ceramics? I was born into a kiln household and it was the only path I ever considered.

What influenced your designs? Hints and influences from habitually going outside and keeping in mind all the new things I see while walking.

Describe yourself in five words. Buddhist, introspective, conquer, assertive, solitary.

Favorite hobbies? Driving and travelling.
