The climbers hut at the base of the Thielmann Glacier is the starting point for climbs of this, Ecuador’s highest peak, and the point furthest from the equator. The Puruhá people trace their ancestry to the marriage of Chimborazo and a nearby peak, Tungurahua, and see themselves as the mountains’ direct descendants.
