Revered by the Klamath Indians who lived beneath its flanks, and a favorite of conservationist John Muir, who went on to found the Sierra Club, the twin volcanic cones of Shasta are visible for hundreds of miles from California’s Sacramento Valley. From high on the slopes of Casaval Ridge, a billowing thunderhead looms over the cone of the lesser summit Shastina.
