Ben Shan is from its own varietal, one of the 12 grown in the tea-rich region of Anxi in southern Fujian province. Ben Shan is chosen as one of the four teas for the China Annual Tea Competition. It’s lightly oxidized and easy on the palate with a long pleasant aftertaste and a rich, orchid-like fragrance. It’s a good choice for an entry-level oolong. Steep it any way you like — it is very forgiving. Or try it “kungfu” style using lots of leaf in a small pot or gaiwan with short multiple infusions.
