Azalea, Japanese Maple and Dwarf Trees in Sunken Garden.

In 1943, Julius L. Girod, the Superintendent of Parks, constructed the brick terrace and below it the Sunken Garden, a landscape he designed on the site of the Hagiwaras' former home. Here the view from the deck encompasses an azalea in bloom, Japanese maple and dwarf trees as well as offering glimpses of the pond below.
