The lotus is a symbol of sacred beauty, purity and perfection because it grows out of mud
but is not defiled; it is also the flower of summer in Chinese mythology. This finely-crafted
blue-green, cinnabar, and ocher zisha teapot embodies all of the symbolism that the
lotus has inspired. The body is in the shape of a wide-open lotus blossom on its side, with
seven moveable lotus pod seeds exposed, each representing the blessing of an obedient child.
The blue-green handle is shaped like the stem of the flower, and the matching spout a curled
lotus leaf. The three feet of the teapot are molded as water chestnut, lotus root, and
ling-chiao, emblem of fruitfulness. Atop the leaf lid with stem finial perches
a small ocher dove.
