Chojyu Giga

Scenes from the Chojyu Giga scrolls belong to the Kyouzan-ji Temple in Kyoto.  Originating during the 12th and 13th Century, the artist chose to depict village life through the use of animal caricatures in the place of humans. It is considered by some to be one of the first examples of manga art.

The scrolls can be viewed at either the Kyoto or Tokyo National Museums.

Each porcelain cup has one of five popular scenes and is the perfect sipping size, whether it is cold tea, juice or something stronger.
