Kaede is a traditional pattern for Autumn.  The shape of the leaves is thought to resemble the hands (te) of frogs (kaeru), thus, the name "kaeru-te".  This has since been changed to kaede.  This pattern is also used for many textiles throughout Japan, symbolizing Autumn, along with beauty and elegance.  This tetsubin was inspired by a Tokoname kyusu motif.
